Moz Pro alternatives: what actually replaces a $99 Standard seat

By Giovanni Rasulo Updated Prices checked September 2026 8 alternatives

Short answer

The closest all-in-one swap for Moz Pro is SE Ranking: Core costs $129 a month against $99 for Moz Pro Standard, and covers the same mix of rank tracking, site audit and keyword research, minus a Domain Authority-style score. Ahrefs is the pick if backlink depth matters more than a familiar dashboard. The cheapest full platform is KeySearch at $24 a month: it actually licenses its keyword and link data from Moz's own API, so it is a cheaper slice of the same dataset rather than a true substitute. If you use Moz mainly to plan content, GrowGanic replaces that half of the job for $99 a month with a no-card free tier.

Moz Pro now sells four self-serve tiers: Starter at $49 a month for a single site, Standard at $99 (its most commonly quoted price, covering 3 sites), Medium at $179 (10 sites, marketed as most popular) and Large at $299 (25 sites), roughly 20% off on all of them with annual billing. That is a wider lineup than it used to be, and it is worth flagging: several recent write-ups online still describe Moz Pro as a simple two-tier Starter/Standard product and never mention Medium or Large, which is a sign they have not been rechecked against Moz's own pricing page.

What most solo subscribers actually open is keyword research, rank tracking and the site crawl, plus a look at the Domain Authority score, which is the one number about Moz that outlives any single subscription decision.

Entry self-serve plans on monthly billing, checked against each vendor's own pricing page in September 2026. Moz Pro's Medium and Large tiers are recent additions to the lineup: older roundups quoting only Starter and Standard are describing an incomplete, not necessarily outdated, picture.

What Moz Pro does that is hard to replace

  • Domain Authority. It remains the most widely recognized third-party authority score in SEO, even though it is Moz's own proprietary metric and not a Google ranking factor. Clients and stakeholders often ask for "the DA" by name, and no other tool reports the same number: Ahrefs has Domain Rating, Semrush has Authority Score, and none of them are interchangeable.
  • The gentlest learning curve. Guided onboarding tips, Moz Academy and Whiteboard Friday give Moz Pro the easiest on-ramp of the incumbents, which matters if you are new to SEO rather than replacing a tool you already know.
  • A path into local SEO. Moz sells a separate Moz Local product for citations and listings; if you already use it alongside Moz Pro, switching the research tool does not touch that relationship.

If none of those three describe why you pay for Moz Pro, the research and tracking part is the cheapest half to replace.

The cheapest Moz Pro alternative

KeySearch, at $24 a month (about $20 billed annually). The detail worth knowing: KeySearch's keyword and link data is licensed from Moz's own API, so you are buying a smaller, unbranded slice of the same underlying dataset rather than a genuinely different tool. It covers keyword research with difficulty scores, SERP analysis and rank tracking, but it has no Domain Authority score, no local tools and a thinner audit than Moz Pro itself.

For an even cheaper option focused purely on keyword volume, Keywords Everywhere runs about $7 a month on its annual-only Bronze plan ($84 a year). It is a browser extension, not a platform (no rank tracking, no site audit, no DA equivalent), so it only fits if lookup data inside Google is genuinely all you use Moz for.

The best free Moz alternative

Nothing free calculates an authority score comparable to DA, because building the link index behind it is expensive. What you can assemble for free covers your own site well:

  1. Google Search Console: the actual queries, impressions and clicks your pages receive, more accurate for your own site than any third-party model, DA included.
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools: the same for Bing, plus its own keyword research and site scan.
  3. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools: free backlink and site-audit data for domains you verify.

Tools similar to Moz Pro, ranked by how close they get

1. SE Ranking: closest all-rounder

The same shape of product: campaigns, rank tracking, site audit, keyword and competitor research in one dashboard, now sold as Core at $129 a month ($103.20 annually). It costs more than Moz Standard and has no equivalent to Domain Authority, but it is the nearest feature-for-feature swap on this page.

2. Ahrefs: closest on backlink depth

Ahrefs Lite at $129 a month is generally regarded as the stronger, fresher backlink index. It has no Domain Authority equivalent either (Domain Rating measures link equity differently), so switching for links means also switching the number you report. The detailed comparison is in Ahrefs vs Moz.

3. Semrush: broadest bundle

Pro at $139.95 a month adds paid-search and broader marketing data that neither Moz nor Ahrefs carries, at the highest entry price of the three.

4. Mangools: closest beginner experience

Five tools on every paid plan (keyword research, SERP analysis, rank tracking, backlinks and a site profiler) from $49 a month or $29.90 billed annually. The interface rivals Moz Pro's for a newcomer; lookup limits on Basic are the constraint.

If you use Moz mainly for content

A common pattern: Moz Pro's Keyword Explorer feeds a content calendar, and someone downstream writes the articles. In that case the expensive part of your stack is not the research subscription: it is the writing time.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you sign up through one and later make an eligible purchase, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

That is the job an autonomous tool replaces. GrowGanic researches the keywords, drafts the article, scores it against on-page signals and publishes it to your site, at $99 a month for up to 30 articles, roughly $3.30 an article at full volume. It has no Domain Authority equivalent and no backlink index, so it replaces the content workflow, not Moz Pro. Its free tier gives you one real article with no card, which is the cheapest way to test the workflow before cancelling anything: try the GrowGanic free tier (affiliate link).

Who should stay on Moz

  • You report Domain Authority to clients or stakeholders. It is the number they know, and no other tool produces the same score.
  • You already run Moz Local alongside Moz Pro. Switching the research tool does not simplify that relationship.
  • You are new to SEO. The onboarding tips and Moz Academy make it the gentlest incumbent to learn on.
  • You track 10–25 sites under one account. The Medium and Large tiers are built for exactly that, at a lower price than the equivalent Ahrefs or Semrush seats.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Moz Pro?

SE Ranking is the closest all-in-one swap, at $129 a month for Core against $99 for Moz Pro Standard, covering the same mix of rank tracking, site audit and keyword research without a Domain Authority-style score. Ahrefs is the pick if backlink depth matters more than a familiar dashboard. KeySearch is the cheapest full platform at $24 a month.

Is there a free alternative to Moz?

Not a complete one. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are free and give you real query data for your own sites, and Ahrefs Webmaster Tools adds backlink and audit data for verified domains. None of them calculate a Domain Authority-style score.

What is the cheapest Moz alternative?

KeySearch, at $24 a month or about $20 billed annually. It licenses its keyword and link data from Moz's own API, so it is effectively a cheaper slice of Moz's dataset without Moz's dashboard, Domain Authority score or local tools.

Is Domain Authority still meaningful if I switch tools?

Domain Authority is Moz's own proprietary score and is not used by Google. Ahrefs' Domain Rating and Semrush's Authority Score measure similar ideas differently, and the numbers are not interchangeable. Switching tools means resetting the baseline any reports built around DA use.
