Best WordPress SEO plugins for AI search (GEO) in 2027

By Giovanni Rasulo Updated Prices checked October 2026

Short answer

All four main plugins now do the basics of GEO: an llms.txt file, plus an MCP or Abilities connection so an AI assistant can work on your site. The real differences are price and extras. Rank Math Pro is $107.88 a year for unlimited personal sites and adds AI visibility tracking on separate AI plans. Yoast tracks brands only in a $358.80 AI+ plan. AIOSEO's MCP server works on its free version. SEOPress is cheapest at scale, $149 for unlimited sites. None of them make a page more likely to be cited, and Google says llms.txt is not used by Search.

This is a documented comparison, not a test. Features and prices come from each vendor's own pages and documentation, checked in October 2026. CheaperStack has not run any of these plugins on a live site and does not claim to. What counts as GEO here is defined in GEO vs SEO, explained, and what Google says to do about it is in the AI search checklist.

Monthly or annual per vendor pages, checked in October 2026, excluding VAT. Some vendors show euro prices to European visitors; the dollar figures are the numerals used elsewhere on this site. Rank Math currently shows European visitors a launch discount on Pro, and AIOSEO's Basic is $99 at renewal. "None found" means no first-party feature turned up in this check, not that none exists.

What "GEO" means for a plugin

A plugin cannot get you cited by ChatGPT or Google's AI answers. Google's own guide says AI features rely on its core ranking and quality systems and that AEO and GEO are SEO for the search experience. What a plugin can do falls into four jobs:

  • Publish an llms.txt file. A Markdown index of your key pages. Google Search says it does not use it; other services may. Treat it as a free extra.
  • Control AI crawlers. Robots rules for bots that train models and bots that cite you.
  • Track AI visibility. Counting mentions and citations of your brand in AI answers. This is a paid add-on, not a core SEO feature.
  • Let an assistant work on your site. MCP or the WordPress Abilities API, so Claude can read scores, audit and fix fields.

The fifth job, writing content with a point of view, is outside every plugin. The E-E-A-T guide covers it.

Rank Math

Rank Math is the broadest on this list for AI search. It has an LLMS Txt module you switch on from its dashboard, which builds the file from the post types and taxonomies you choose, leaves noindex posts out and starts empty until you configure it. Its pricing page lists an "Advanced llms.txt Generator" among Pro features, so check which options your install shows.

AI visibility is a Content AI feature on separate AI plans: Starter tracks 1 brand or product, Creator 10 and Expert 50, across ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI platforms. Rank Math shows European visitors €5.99, €10.99 and €16.99 a month billed annually, ex VAT, described as launch prices (the previous prices were €6.99, €11.99 and €18.99). Rank Math Pro itself includes only complimentary monthly usage limits to try some AI features. Content AI no longer works on credits: each feature has a monthly limit, and the free tier is one to five uses per feature.

The MCP tools are free and cover audits, settings, schema, redirects, Search Console keywords and AI Visibility, with Pro or Content AI needed only for some tools. The setup is in Rank Math MCP with Claude. Pro is $107.88 a year for unlimited personal sites; client sites need the Business or Agency plans.

Yoast SEO

Yoast has the simplest llms.txt: it is part of the free plugin, enabled in Site features under AI tools, with an automatic mode that prioritizes cornerstone content and refreshes weekly, or a manual mode. It is not available on multisite.

AI Brand Insights is the paid GEO feature, sold inside Yoast SEO AI+ at $358.80 a year, ex VAT. One subscription covers one brand with one weekly analysis and up to five brand questions, tracking ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, with sentiment, citation and competitor benchmarking. Extra brands are separate subscriptions, and it includes Yoast WooCommerce SEO and Premium features. Existing Premium and WooCommerce customers can try a one-time scan.

Yoast's Abilities connect to the WordPress Abilities API. Since April 2026 they expose SEO, readability and inclusive-language scores; on 29 September 2026 Yoast added a per-post read plus updates to canonical, robots flags, cornerstone and schema type, in bulk. The focus keyphrase stays read-only. Yoast does not state which plan Abilities need. Premium is $118.80 a year for one site; see Rank Math vs Yoast.

AIOSEO

AIOSEO's llms.txt generator is available on Lite and Pro, enabled by default, with options for which post types and terms to include. The llms-full.txt file and the Markdown conversion need Pro.

Its MCP server is the best deal for trying an assistant: the docs say the AI assistant and MCP server work on the free Lite version, with 13 abilities covering posts, settings, notifications, robots.txt and audits. Pro adds terms, redirects and Search Statistics; the Link Assistant add-on adds four more, and Search Statistics data returns only on Elite. It needs AIOSEO 4.9.8 or newer, WordPress 6.9 and the free MCP Adapter plugin, and authenticates with an application password. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Gemini CLI are supported; AIOSEO says ChatGPT is not, because its connectors use a different sign-in.

Prices: Basic is $99 a year for one site with 10,000 AI credits; Plus $199 for 3 sites, Pro $399 for 10 and Elite $599 for 100. AIOSEO currently shows 50% off the first year, an introductory price, and renewals are at full price. No AI visibility tracker turned up in this check.

SEOPress

SEOPress puts the AI-search features in PRO's Agent Readiness: an llms.txt file, one-click robots.txt rules for training bots such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot, a content-signal directive that allows search and citation but disallows training by default, an MCP server card, and Markdown versions of pages for agents. Its documentation does not say whether search engines read any of these files, so do not assume a ranking effect.

Its Abilities for assistants need SEOPress 10 and WordPress 6.9: 8 abilities are free (titles, descriptions, robots, social data, content analysis), and PRO adds redirects, structured data, target keywords and AI generation. Claude is named as an example client. PRO is $49 a year for 1 site, $59 for 5 and $149 for unlimited, and renews at the same price. SEOPress Insights, at $99 a year per site, tracks rankings and backlinks, not AI answers.

What to plan for in 2027

Everything above was checked in October 2026, and these plugins are moving fast: Yoast added write access to its Abilities on 29 September 2026, and AIOSEO's MCP server needs a version released only recently. So treat the table as a snapshot and plan around three things that are already documented.

  • The connection layer is converging. All four rely on the WordPress Abilities API, which needs WordPress 6.9 or newer, and some add the MCP Adapter plugin. Update WordPress and the plugin before you test an assistant, and expect the lists of abilities to grow.
  • Paid AI tiers are where vendors differ. Free MCP access is now common. AI visibility tracking and higher AI limits are sold separately by Rank Math and Yoast, so decide what you would actually pay for before you compare.
  • Google's position is the stable part. Its guide says AI features use its core ranking systems and that llms.txt is not used by Search. A plugin choice should rest on price, site limits and workflow, not on a GEO feature that might not change what you get cited for.

Nobody outside the vendors can say what each plugin will ship next. Re-check the version requirements and plan limits in your own dashboard before buying, and expect this page to change as they do.

Which one to pick

If you are starting from scratch on WordPress and want one plugin that covers llms.txt, a free MCP connection and an optional AI visibility tracker, Rank Math is the shortest list of things to buy. That is also why this site links to it. The free plugin does everything except the paid pieces, so try it first. Get Rank Math (affiliate link). The full pricing comparison is in Rank Math alternatives.

Who should stay where they are

  • Sites already on Yoast, AIOSEO or SEOPress with correct titles and sitemaps. Each now has llms.txt and an assistant connection, so GEO alone is no reason to migrate. The move itself is documented in Yoast to Rank Math migration.
  • Anyone buying for llms.txt. Google Search does not use it, and the vendors' own docs treat its effect as unproven.
  • Anyone who needs real AI visibility data. A plugin tracker covers a handful of brands. A dedicated tool measures far more; see Best AI visibility tools, or start with the free options.
  • Sites that need articles, not metadata. These plugins check and structure content you already wrote.

What none of them do: write the articles

A plugin makes sure a good page is crawlable, described and easy for an assistant to inspect. It does not research or write it. GrowGanic is an autonomous SEO engine: add a domain and it researches the keywords, writes and scores the articles, publishes them to your site or a hosted blog, and tracks the rankings. It sits next to a plugin, not instead of one, and it has no backlink index. The free tier gives you one article with no card. By GrowGanic's own account, the hosted copy of the free article stays out of Google until the plan is paid; connecting your site first avoids that. Read each draft and add something only you know, as the checklist explains. Try the free tier (affiliate link).

Frequently asked questions

Which WordPress SEO plugin is best for GEO?

No plugin makes a page more likely to be cited by itself. Google says AI search relies on its core ranking systems. Pick on what you will use: Rank Math or Yoast if you want AI visibility tracking from the same vendor, AIOSEO for the lowest-cost free MCP access, SEOPress for the lowest price at scale.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

Google Search says it does not use llms.txt. All four plugins can generate one, so it costs nothing to switch on, but it should not decide which plugin you buy.

Which plugins offer free MCP access for AI assistants?

As of October 2026, all four: Rank Math's MCP tools, AIOSEO's MCP server (13 abilities on Lite), Yoast's Abilities and SEOPress 10's Abilities. They differ in breadth, in which AI tools they support and in what needs a paid plan, so check the table before choosing.

Can a WordPress plugin track my AI visibility?

Two can, as paid add-ons: Rank Math's AI Visibility, on its AI plans, and Yoast's AI Brand Insights, in Yoast SEO AI+. Both track a small number of brands. A dedicated tracker covers more engines and queries, so compare them before paying.

Is it worth switching plugins for GEO features?

Rarely. The GEO-specific features are optional extras, and the checklist Google documents is crawlability, indexing and non-commodity content, which any of the four supports. Switch for price or workflow, not for llms.txt.
