Rank Math alternatives: Yoast, AIOSEO and SEOPress, on current pricing

By Giovanni Rasulo Updated Prices checked September 2026 4 alternatives

Short answer

Rank Math Pro is $107.88 a year (about $8.99 a month) and covers unlimited personal sites. Yoast SEO Premium costs almost the same, $118.80 a year, but for one site only. AIOSEO and SEOPress both bundle AI features into their paid tiers too; SEOPress is the cheapest option at scale, $149 a year for unlimited sites. The genuinely new difference is Rank Math MCP: a free, built-in bridge that lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT run SEO tasks directly on your WordPress site. It is no longer unique: AIOSEO, Yoast and SEOPress now have their own assistant connections, covered in the WordPress SEO plugins for AI search comparison.

This is a different kind of comparison from most of this site: WordPress SEO plugins, not SaaS research platforms. They price differently too (mostly annual licences per number of sites, rather than monthly SaaS billing), so "cheapest" depends entirely on how many sites you run and whether they are your own or a client's. Everything below was checked against each vendor's own pricing page in September 2026.

The comparison table

Rank Math alternatives compared on entry paid price, site limit, AI content and free tier

The SEO Framework Pro $84$7/mo, billed annually 2 sites minimum None Generous, unlimited sites

Checked against each vendor's own pricing page in September 2026. AIOSEO's tier prices are its full renewal rate; its site currently runs a 50% first-year promotion on top, labelled as such.

What Rank Math Pro, Business and Agency actually change

Rank Math paid tiers compared
TierPrice /yrSitesTracked keywordsContent AI trial
Pro$107.88Unlimited personal500Starter plan
Business$335.88100 client sites10,000Creator plan
Agency$779.88500 client sites50,000Expert plan

The distinction that matters is "personal" versus "client" sites: Pro's unlimited allowance is for sites you own yourself. The moment you are building or managing sites for clients commercially, Rank Math expects Business or Agency, priced per number of client sites supported rather than unlimited.

Rank Math MCP: the free bridge for your own site

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for letting AI assistants securely call tools on an external system. Rank Math ships an MCP bridge, free, built into the plugin itself (not a paid add-on) that exposes its SEO functions as things an AI assistant can actually do: run an audit, pull a page's metadata, inspect schema markup, check for broken links, and fix supported issues, all from a natural-language request inside an MCP-capable client like Claude Desktop or GitHub Copilot.

Worth being precise about what this is not: it is not a fully autonomous SEO agent, and you need an MCP-capable AI assistant already set up to use it at all; most casual WordPress users will never touch this feature. But for anyone already working inside Claude or a similar tool, it is a genuinely new capability. It is no longer exclusive. As of October 2026 AIOSEO has an MCP server that works on its free Lite version (13 abilities, with more in Pro), Yoast exposes SEO scores and, since 29 September, technical field updates through the WordPress Abilities API, and SEOPress 10 has Abilities for assistants (8 free, more in PRO). They differ in breadth and in which AI tools they support, so the useful question is which one covers the tasks you would actually hand an assistant.

Content AI: what's actually included for free

Every Rank Math install, including the free version, gets a free Content AI tier: one to five uses per feature each month, so enough to try it, not to rely on it. Rank Math replaced its credit system with per-feature monthly limits, so older pages that quote 750 credits a month are out of date. Higher limits need one of its AI plans (Starter, Creator or Expert), shown to European visitors at €5.99, €10.99 and €16.99 a month billed annually, ex VAT, as launch prices; the plans also set how many brands its AI Visibility feature tracks. Unused limits do not roll over.

The competitors handle this differently. Yoast bundles AI-drafted titles and meta descriptions into the Premium price with no separate credit system. AIOSEO bundles a fixed annual AI-credit allowance per tier (10,000 on Basic up to 200,000 on Elite), but its full AI Writing Assistant needs a separate paid SEOBoost subscription. SEOPress takes the opposite approach entirely: you can connect your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek or Mistral API key and pay that provider directly, or buy SEOPress AI Credits, which can be cheaper or more expensive depending on how much you already use AI elsewhere.

The best free WordPress SEO plugin

All five plugins on this page have a real free tier with no site limit, which is unusual for this category compared to the SaaS tools the rest of this site covers. The SEO Framework's free tier is the most generous relative to its paid plans: "unlimited premium critical SEO" at $0. Rank Math's free tier is the most feature-complete of the mainstream options, and is the only one with a free tier of its own AI features (a few uses per feature each month) without paying. If you want zero cost and do not need AI drafting, rank tracking or advanced schema, either is a reasonable starting point.

The alternatives, one by one

Yoast SEO: the established name, priced per site

Yoast SEO Premium is $118.80 a year for one site, and bundles the Local, Video and News SEO plugins, bulk AI-drafted metadata, one Google Docs integration seat (extra seats $5/month each), and 24/7 support. It is still the plugin most WordPress users have heard of, and its per-site pricing is the main reason people compare it against Rank Math's unlimited-site Pro plan.

AIOSEO: the closest on structure, if not on price

AIOSEO's tiers (Basic through Elite) map closely to Rank Math's Pro/Business/Agency shape (a keyword-tracking, schema-generating, redirect-managing plugin with bundled AI credits), but its full renewal prices ($99 to $599 a year) run meaningfully higher than Rank Math's equivalents once the first-year promotion ends.

SEOPress: flat pricing, bring your own AI key

SEOPress's honesty about renewal pricing is its strongest pitch: "renew at the same price every year," no shifting promotional baseline. At $149 a year for unlimited sites, it is the cheapest way to cover many sites on this page, and its llms.txt configuration for AI crawlers is a genuinely useful, underrated feature. The trade-off is that AI content generation runs on your own API key rather than a bundled credit system.

The SEO Framework: lightest plugin, smallest feature set

Built around being fast and unobtrusive rather than feature-dense, its free tier already covers real SEO fundamentals. Paid tiers ($84 to $324 a year) mostly unlock extensions and higher API-request limits, not AI content tools: there is no AI writing or credit system here at all.

Who should stay on their current plugin

  • You have years of Yoast configuration and a trained team. Migration risk and retraining time usually outweigh a modest price difference.
  • You already pay for your own OpenAI or Claude API access and would rather not layer a second AI-credit system on top: SEOPress's bring-your-own-key model fits that better than a bundled allowance.
  • AIOSEO's internal-linking automation or affiliate-link reporting is core to your workflow. It is the most developed feature of its kind among these four.
  • You run one or two lightweight sites and value the smallest, fastest plugin over feature depth: The SEO Framework's free tier is built for exactly that.

If the real problem is not the plugin

Every plugin on this page does the same underlying job: it checks and structures content you have already written. None of them write the content itself. If the actual bottleneck is that nobody has time to produce new pages, a plugin (however good) is not the fix.

GrowGanic researches the keywords, writes and scores the article, and publishes it to your CMS on a schedule, for $99 a month covering up to 30 articles. It is not a WordPress plugin and does not replace on-page technical checks, schema markup or redirects: it replaces the writer, which is a different job than any tool on this page does. Try the free tier (affiliate link), which gives you one article with no card.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rank Math actually free?

Yes, the core plugin is free with no site limit, and includes a free Content AI tier of a few uses per feature each month. Pro, at $107.88 a year, adds a keyword rank tracker, the advanced schema generator and unlimited personal sites; Business and Agency add support for client sites.

Is Rank Math better than Yoast?

On price for multiple sites, yes: Rank Math Pro covers unlimited personal sites for $107.88 a year, while Yoast SEO Premium is $118.80 a year per single site. Yoast's Premium bundles Local, Video and News SEO and a Google Docs integration that Rank Math does not have. Which wins depends on whether you run one site or several.

What is Rank Math MCP and do I need it?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a bridge, free and built into Rank Math, that lets AI assistants like Claude Desktop or GitHub Copilot run SEO tasks on your WordPress site directly through natural-language requests. You do not need it to use Rank Math normally; it matters if you already work inside an MCP-capable AI assistant and want it to act on your site's SEO.

Does Rank Math's Content AI cost extra?

The free plugin includes a small Content AI tier: one to five uses per feature each month. Beyond that, Rank Math sells Starter, Creator and Expert AI plans, shown to European visitors at €5.99, €10.99 and €16.99 a month billed annually, ex VAT, as launch prices. Limits are per feature, and unused uses do not roll over.
