AI SEO tools for WordPress in 2027: three stacks, by what you can spend

By Giovanni Rasulo Updated Prices checked October 2026

Short answer

A WordPress AI SEO stack has three layers: a plugin that structures and audits your pages, an AI assistant connected to it, and a content engine that produces articles. You can run the first two for $0 with the free Rank Math plugin, its free MCP tools and a free Claude account. About $30 a month adds Rank Math Pro and Claude Pro. About $130 a month adds GrowGanic Pro, which researches, writes, scores and publishes up to 30 articles a month. Measurement stays free in Google Search Console.

This is a documented guide, not a test. Prices come from each vendor's own pages, checked in October 2026. CheaperStack has not run these stacks on a live site and does not claim to. If you are choosing research tools rather than WordPress layers, Best SEO tools for solo bloggers has stacks by budget for that.

Monthly prices from each vendor's pricing page, October 2026, excluding VAT; the annual Rank Math fee is divided by 12. Vendors show euro prices to European visitors; the dollar figures are the numerals used elsewhere on this site. GrowGanic was offering a first-month promotional price when checked; the stack uses the regular price. Totals exclude your domain and hosting.

What each layer actually does

1. The plugin: structure, audits and metadata

Rank Math handles titles, descriptions, schema, redirects, sitemaps and a site audit. Its free plugin does all of that for unlimited sites; Pro at $107.88 a year adds multiple schema types per page, a keyword rank tracker and unlimited personal sites. The comparison with Yoast, AIOSEO and SEOPress is in WordPress SEO plugins for AI search, and the pricing in Rank Math alternatives.

2. The assistant: a way to ask your site questions

With Rank Math's MCP tools connected, an assistant such as Claude can run a site audit, list posts with low SEO scores, read schema and redirects, and apply supported fixes. The tools are free and part of the plugin; the steps are in Rank Math MCP with Claude. Anthropic's pricing lists custom connectors on Free, and its support documentation says Free accounts can add one. A paid plan raises usage limits. The server must be reachable from the public internet, so a local or password-protected staging site will not connect.

The assistant does not replace the other two layers. It reads and changes SEO data on your site. It does not run keyword research at scale, and it does not publish articles for you.

3. The content engine: the part that produces articles

GrowGanic is an autonomous SEO engine: add a domain and it researches the keywords, writes and scores the articles, publishes them to your site or a hosted blog, and tracks the rankings. On a paid plan it publishes every weekday. Free writes your first article; if you connect WordPress before it is written, that article publishes live in your own admin, and later free articles arrive as unpublished drafts. Pro is $99 a month for up to 30 articles and 3 sites, with the annual price shown at $79 a month; Business is $299 a month for up to 150 articles, 10 sites and 5 seats.

The limits to plan for

  • Volume you cannot review. Google warns against mass-producing pages without added value and asks for non-commodity content. Cap publishing at what you will actually read.
  • MCP write tools change live settings. Use OAuth, which you can revoke, keep a backup, and ask the assistant to describe a change before it applies it.
  • No backlinks. None of these layers is a link tool. GrowGanic has no backlink index, and, by GrowGanic's own account, the hosted copy of the free article stays out of Google until the plan is paid (connecting your site or a subdomain first avoids that).
  • Overlap. Rank Math's Content AI and Claude can both draft text. A content engine is only worth it if you do not want to be the one drafting.

Where to start

Start with the free plugin and the free MCP connection. They cost nothing, they teach you what an assistant can and cannot do on your site, and you can move up when you hit a limit. Get Rank Math (affiliate link).

When the third layer is worth it

The content engine pays off when your constraint is time, not tools: you have a site with demand to serve and no one to write for it. Try the free plan first and read the article it writes against your own standards. If you would not publish it, a paid plan will not change that; if you would, check that the weekly review fits in your schedule before moving up. Try the free plan (affiliate link).

Who should skip this stack

  • Sites not on WordPress. The MCP and plugin layers are WordPress-specific.
  • Sites that already write well and steadily. A plugin plus Search Console is enough; the content engine adds cost without removing a bottleneck.
  • YMYL sites. Health, legal and finance pages need a qualified, named author; see the E-E-A-T guide.
  • Anyone who will not read what is published. Do not automate a step you will not supervise.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest AI SEO setup for a WordPress site?

$0 a month: the free Rank Math plugin, its free MCP tools connected to a free Claude account (which allows one custom connector), Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and GrowGanic's free plan, which writes your first article. It covers auditing and measuring; writing at volume costs money.

Do I need a paid AI assistant to use MCP?

Not to start. Claude's free plan allows one custom connector and Rank Math's MCP tools are free. A paid plan raises usage limits, which matters if you run long audits often.

Can an assistant write my articles through MCP?

Not as a publishing workflow. Rank Math's MCP tools audit, read and change SEO settings and metadata; they are not a content engine. Writing and publishing at scale is the job of a separate tool, and every draft still needs a human read.

Is it safe to let an assistant change my site's SEO settings?

Some MCP tools write to live settings. Connect with OAuth, which you can revoke, try it on a staging copy, keep a backup, and ask the assistant to describe a change before it applies it.

How many articles should I publish a month?

As many as you can review. Google warns against mass-producing pages without added value, and its guidance asks for non-commodity content. Thirty reviewed articles are a stronger position than three hundred skimmed ones.
